Ingredients
- 1 block (14-16 oz) extra-firm or super-firm tofu
- 2 tbsp cornstarch (for tofu coating)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or other neutral oil)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp water or vegetable broth
- 1 tsp cornstarch (for sauce)
- For Garnish: Sesame seeds and sliced green onions
Instructions
- **Press the Tofu:** Remove tofu from packaging and drain excess water. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel or several layers of paper towels and place a heavy object on top (like a cast iron pan or books) for at least 20-30 minutes to press out as much moisture as possible. This step is crucial for crispy tofu!
- **Cut the Tofu:** Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.
- **Coat the Tofu:** In a medium bowl, toss the tofu cubes with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch until evenly coated. This will help them get nice and crispy when cooked.
- **Cook the Tofu:** Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
