Ingredients
- 1 (24 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 1.5 lbs thinly sliced deli roast beef
- 12 slices provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder (optional)
- For the Au Jus:
- 4 cups beef broth (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Carefully slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls horizontally through the middle, keeping the top and bottom connected. Place the bottom halves in the prepared baking dish.
- Evenly layer the thinly sliced roast beef over the bottom rolls.
- Arrange the provolone cheese slices over the roast beef.
- Gently place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese layer.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp garlic powder, and the optional onion powder until well combined.
- Pour and spread the butter mixture evenly over the top of the rolls.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- While the squares are baking, prepare the au jus: In a medium saucepan, combine the beef broth, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp garlic powder, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Keep warm until serving.
- After 20 minutes, remove the foil from the baking dish and bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the tops are lightly golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let sit for a few minutes. Cut the squares along the roll seams and serve warm with individual ramekins of the warm au jus for dipping.
- Enjoy your easy and delicious French Dip Squares!
