Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 cup elbow macaroni, uncooked
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella, or a blend)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (or preferred cooking oil)
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet, stirring to combine everything well.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the macaroni is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Once the pasta is cooked, remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
